The picture doesn’ t really show how white the streets are, but they are blindingly white. Its all salt, not snow.

Aren’t snow tire mandatory in Canada? You’d think that with every one having good tires they wouldn’t bother with the salt

Wow this is really bad, in addition that much salt is going to just run into the storm water system and pollute whatever waterway it runs into.

Snow tires are mandatory only in the province of Quebec and they still use salt their too. Some parts of Canada use sand instead of salt (Alberta) and I prefer that. My tin foil hat theory is that the salt producers are in cahoots with the government to use crazy amounts of salt to make more profit for them.

Colorado moved to salt brine a few years ago. Not apocalyptic midwest levels, but it’s still here.

Salt is easier to clean than sand. But salt is also useless in extreme cold weather. This is why Alberta uses sand and Toronto uses salt.
